Adam Tanner American traditional - American root music.
Born in NY state and raised in Northern California, Adam was introduced to music via Suzuki Violin training at the age of nine. Adam's older brother Evan, also, had a keen interest in music and played the guitar, eventually teaching Adam enough rudiments on that instrument to keep his interest growing. Saturday August 9th Greenman Music Hall 8pm tickets $10 in advance, $12 at the door with Special Guest - Greg Hall aka Cheech! website Right from jump street, the electrifying sound of Joe Price hits you in all the places you live: The insistent, driving rhythm chops, the taproot boot-stomps, the splintering, thrilling slide runs up the fret board, and that voice—a keening, haunting miracle seemingly channeled from the ghosts of past masters—all add up to a one-man blues tornado who can pack, command and wring-out a dance-floor with the authority of an eight-piece showband. And while Price inhabits classic blues standards as if they were favorite shirts, his own deep and varied bag of original music is so formidable—so thoroughly imbued with life’s mysteries—that noted Grammy-award nominated singer/songwriter Greg Brown has long referred to Joe as “the Buddha.” Clearly, this man was born to play the blues. Growing up in a remote rural setting easily could turn out to be a severe disadvantage to a fledgling musician. But for Vicki (Ewing) Price, the particular mix-and-match, peek-a-boo forays into country, blues and R&B-influenced gospel afforded by her formative years in Waukon, Iowa circumscribed a crucible that would forge a distinctive, blues-belting guitarist who is as earthy, unique and seductive as a greenhouse orchid. Of course, the intersection/collision of Vicki’s life with that of incendiary, mercurial Iowa Blues Hall of Fame legend Joe Price more than 25 years ago accelerated the process, but—make no mistake here—the creative, musical impact of this most-fortuitous of romantic pairings was and remains a bustling two-way street in nearly every way imaginable, and the artistic achievements of both partners are irrevocably intertwined. The on-stage interplay between Joe and Vick (which is as natural and copacetic as it is off-stage) makes that connection clear, and the mutual admiration society is well-tended. Dazzling picking, expressive voice, unique and interesting songs. He is a showman in the best sense of the word and just wowed our audience. I think they would have followed him anywhere." Friday August 22nd 8pm Greenman Music Hall tickets $8 in advance, $12 at the door, $5 kids and Seniors South Carolinian Jack Williams, guitarist/singer/songwriter/storyteller, is outstanding among a handful of artists who - in skill, depth and integrity – stand head and shoulders above the many performers flooding today’s folk circuit. Among acoustic guitarists he is near-legendary. Having avoided the compromises of the commercial music industry during his 50+-year professional career, he prefers touring “under the radar”, playing concerts, large and small, week in and week out, from the sheer love of music and performing.

with Karen Mal August 30th 8pm Greenman Music Hall tickets $10 in advance, $12 at the door, $5 kids & seniors Buddy Mondlock writes songs. He does it so well that some great songwriters have recorded his songs on their own albums. Guy Clark, Nanci Griffith and Janis Ian, to name just a few. But there’s nothing like hearing the guy who wrote ‘em sing ‘em. He’s not going to pin your ears back with those songs. He’s going to draw you into his world. Where a single snowflake follows the trajectory of a relationship, where you get your pocket picked by a Roman cat, where you might swim over the edge of the world if you’re not careful and where dreams that don’t come true still count. And it can all be happening in a little folk club or on a stage by a grassy hill or in someone’s living room or in the Royal Albert Hall. His new album, “The Edge of the World,” is his most personal recording to date. The song cycle is an introspective journey from childhood through to the disintegration of a marriage and beyond. And while always a wry observer of the social interactions of human beings, the song “Big Fish, Shallow Water” takes on a political edge as well. Buddy did most of the playing and singing himself, with a little help from longtime friend, bassist Mike Lindauer. Then co-producer Jim Tullio added just the right sonic touches of percussion and atmospheric guitar to glue it all together. Buddy Mondlock's WEBSITE - LISTEN Karen Mal has been chosen as a winner or finalist in the following songwriting competitions: Portland Songwriters Association (2002) Karen Mal sings. From raw sensuality to shimmering bell-like clarity, her voice is both tender and powerful, and as effortless as a waterfall. There's a river that flows between Karen and her audience. It's about love. The possibility and the unbearable beauty of it. Elusive and abundant at the same time. Based in Austin, TX, Karen has created a name for herself as a captivating singer, instrumentalist and songwriter. Ranging from charming to seductive, impressionistic to philosophical, her songs have brought her nationwide acclaim. She's won top awards from the Wildflower Arts and Music Festival in Texas, the Tucson Folk Festival and the Portland Songwriters Association and has also been a three time New Folk Finalist at Kerrville, emerging artist at Falcon Ridge and a finalist at the Sisters Folk Festival. The lyrics are word heavy stories with an underlying message usually about political or environmental justice, Metaphysical epiphanies or frustrations and blowing off the suburban teen angst, bad love, & trashy rap star negative vibe mentality saturating today’s music. “I have bad days like anyone else. I just make a conscious effort in my songwriting to focus on the positive. "Listen to David Rovics." "David's ability to capture the imagination, fascination and participation of elementary school aged children is obvious from everything he does before his opening song until the last tune leaves his guitar... Children who see him perform more than once shout out song requests when they see him and sing along quickly to their favorite lyrics... While the themes of many of his original songs are silly and carefree he also includes songs that challenge children and their families to think about bigger, global issues... David's shows are full of wit and charm that makes his audience members of all ages glad they came out for the show. I highly recommend hiring David as a singer/songwriter for a one time event or regular schedule of performances." SEPTEMBER 12th FRIDAY 8pm Returning to Greenman Music.... Singer-songwriters Bill & Kate Isles return to Greenman Music Hall Friday, September 19th 8pm
tickets $10 in advance, $12 at the door
Bill Isles (b. 11/2/1951, Duluth, MN USA) returned to performing after a twenty-five year hiatus in February of 2000. Since that time, he has become one of the most highly-respected singer/songwriters in the Minnesota acoustic scene and has begun to get national and international attention. His songs are down-to-earth poetic reflections of life experiences and often explore adventurous metaphorical worlds. These worlds vary greatly in scope and texture such as the differences between the clever honky-tonk ambiguity of "The Hole in Our Town" and the enchanting feel of "Sistine Chapel", both from his 2003 release "The Threshold". Each of his compositions provides a spectrum of interpretation opportunities, as well, as demonstrated by "Sistine Chapel". At first, you might conclude that the song is a first-person account of Michelangelo’s first visit to scope out the project at the Sistine Chapel, but you start to realize that, perhaps, this is also an artist’s perception of entering the “chapel” of his/her audience. Then, again, it also hints at the intimate interaction of lovers. It is this multi-layering that has drawn fans to listen over and over again, and to describe his live performances as "mesmerizing". His love of life and command of language has strong roots in his childhood, but his urgency to tell these stories comes from an experience in 1993 when, with just enough warning to drive himself to the hospital, his heart stopped beating. He arrived with just ten minutes to spare. After being defibrillated, and before the doctors had time to detect and open a blocked artery in his heart, he made a commitment to himself that, if he survived, he would begin to write again. Those paddles restarted his heart in more ways than one… Tickets/ INFO: 608-637-1912 tickets available at Nelson ag-center, and all Iroquois public market merchants M U S I C H A L L SEPTEMBER 26th FRIDAY 8pm Scott Cook FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 26th 8pm GREENMAN MUSIC HALL tickets $8 in advance, $10 at the door
Scott Cook - Long Way to Wander
"His voice is Tom Waits, his sensibilities are Bob Dylan, Kerouac, and Walt Whitman, and his music is a mixture of folk, rhythm and blues, country, bluegrass and reggae. Being a writer as well as a musician, his songs are rich, atmospheric stories about his geographical and philosophical journeys... His music has the ability to transport one instantly to a space of campfire-lit, creek-dipping radiance. Listening to this album is perennially serendipitous – like one is chancing upon a well-traveled old soul by the fireside, whose stripping-away-the-veneer knowledge of the world is never jaded, but always innocent." -Monica Chattaway, CKUA radio Tickets/ INFO: 608-637-1912 tickets available at Nelson ag-center, and all viroqua public market merchants M U S I C H A L L SEPTEMBER 27th SATURDAY 8pm Returning to Greenman Music Hall... november 1st Saturday 8pm Michael Whisler acoustic fingerstyle guitarist and songwriter Saturday, November 1st Greenman Music hall 8pm
Michael Whisler is young self-taught acoustic fingerstyle guitarist and songwriter. He composes for both 12 and 6 string guitars with dynamic power and speed while drawing from American folk, blues and classical music. His tunes range from ripping fast paced instrumentals to slower more emotional ballads and even dissonant free time melodies. He also blends a unique bottleneck tone to some of his compositions which utilize alternate tunings. Although Michael is mainly a solo guitarist he does throw in his low warm vocals to some of the tunes, while all along never noticing there isn’t a band backing him up.
